Egypt coach slams World Cup officiating after loss

Egypt's World Cup journey ended in a controversial 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the last 16, with head coach Hossam Hassan accusing officials of bias. Hassan claimed the tournament was "directed towards Argentina" after his side saw a goal disallowed and were denied at least one penalty.

Argentina secured their quarter-final spot with a dramatic late winner from Enzo Fernandez in the 92nd minute. The decisive goal followed a counter-attack initiated by Julian Alvarez, who appeared to foul Egypt's Mohamed Salah inside the box in the build-up. Hassan also pointed to an earlier incident where Alexis Mac Allister's foul on Hamdi Fathy inside the penalty area was not reviewed.

These incidents overshadowed a strong performance from Egypt, who had a goal earlier ruled out for a foul in the build-up. Hassan expressed deep frustration, stating, "The referee is unfair... The cup is directed towards Argentina." He suggested pressure was applied to the referee to favor the reigning champions.

Argentina will face the winner of the Colombia or Switzerland match in the next round. FIFA has been approached for comment on Hassan's accusations.
