Fourteen former international cricket captains have issued a joint humanitarian appeal for Imran Khan, demanding better treatment for the former Pakistan captain and prime minister who is currently serving multiple prison sentences. The group includes four former England Test captains - Nasser Hussain, Mike Atherton, Mike Brearley, and David Gower - alongside Australian Steve Waugh and Indian legends Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

Khan, 73, has been held in Adiala prison in Rawalpindi since 2023, serving 17 and 14-year sentences. His spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari told Sky News that Khan's personal doctor has been denied access and that the former cricketer has reportedly lost 85 per cent of vision in his right eye. The ex-players expressed "profound concern" over Khan's health deterioration and prison conditions.

The former captains called for immediate medical attention from specialists of Khan's choosing, humane detention conditions meeting international standards, and fair legal process without delay. They emphasized that as fellow cricketers who understand values of fair play and respect, Khan "deserves to be treated with dignity and basic human consideration befitting a former national leader and global sporting icon." Khan, who played 88 Test matches and 175 ODIs for Pakistan, maintains his convictions are politically motivated.
