Head coach Charlotte Edwards has made increasing red-ball cricket exposure a priority following England's 270-run defeat by India in the inaugural women's Test at Lord's. The result continues a winless run in home Tests dating back to 2005.

Edwards noted that India's domestic three or four-day cricket experience gave them an advantage. She emphasized the need to upskill players in four-day skills over the next eight or nine months to prepare for the home Ashes in 2027, noting that Test victories offer a larger chunk of points in the multi-format series.

England must also adapt to the retirements of former captain Heather Knight and batter Tammy Beaumont. Edwards described them as amazing servants to the game, noting that their departures provide a massive opportunity for younger players to step into key roles. Pundit Ebony Rainford-Brent suggested Edwards has "serious homework" to do in defining the next generation of the squad to surpass their rivals.
