Brydon Carse has been charged by the Cricket Regulator in relation to events in Derby in August where he was handcuffed by police and then dropped from the England squad. Footage emerged on social media of Carse in handcuffs, having been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in the early hours of Sunday August 23. He was subsequently "de-arrested".

The 31-year-old was celebrating with Durham players after their win at Derbyshire in the County Championship. He was dropped from England's Test squad for the rest of their series with Pakistan, after which Derbyshire Police confirmed it was looking into allegations of assault but they ended their investigation last month. Carse was later omitted from the T20I and ODI squads for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

The Cricket Regulator issued an update on Friday, revealing the matter will be now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. A statement read: "Following a Cricket Regulator investigation, Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, in relation to events in Derby in the early hours of the morning on August 23 2026. The matter will now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication."

An ECB spokesperson said: "We are aware of the Cricket Regulator's decision to charge Brydon Carse. Brydon now has the opportunity to respond through the established process." White-ball captain Harry Brook said last month that he felt Carse needed time away from the international game.
