Broad: Cox Could Replace Smith as England Keeper

Stuart Broad has praised Jordan Cox after the Essex batter scored an impressive 73 off 100 balls in his second Test match against Pakistan at Headingley.

Cox, who came in at No 3 replacing the injured Jacob Bethell, hit 10 fours on the way to his maiden Test fifty. His performance helped England build a commanding 195-run lead by stumps on day two.

Broad believes Cox's knock could earn him a future role in England's Test XI, potentially as wicketkeeper replacing Jamie Smith. "He's going to do that by weight of runs and showing that he's streetwise, he's battle-hardened and he's ready for the fight," Broad said on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast.

Meanwhile, Broad also praised Dan Lawrence's first Test half-century since 2022, but noted he needs to contribute more with the ball to claim the all-rounder spot vacated by Ben Stokes. "His bowling will be the one facet of his game that we need to see a little bit from," Broad added.
