Roy Hodgson's return to club management began with a winning start as Bristol City defeated Charlton 2-1 at The Valley. The veteran manager, who last coached Crystal Palace in February 2024, saw his side secure all three points thanks to goals from Scott Twine and Noah Eile.

Twine opened the scoring in the 11th minute after being set up by Max Bird, while Charlton's Lyndon Dykes equalized just before halftime with his third goal since joining from Birmingham. The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Swedish defender Eile, making his mark since joining from New York Red Bulls in February, scrambled home from a Twine free-kick that Charlton goalkeeper Will Mannion couldn't hold.

Charlton's Harry Clarke and substitute Ibrahim Fullah threatened but couldn't find an equalizer against Radek Vitek, who made several crucial saves including stops from Matt Godden and Joe Rankin-Costello in a pulsating finale. The victory marked a strong start for Hodgson's interim tenure and ended Charlton's scoring drought at home that stretched back to November.
