Birmingham 1-1 Sheff Utd: Ducksch Hat-Trick of Woodwork

Birmingham City and Sheffield United played out a 1-1 draw at St Andrew's that did little for either side's fading play-off hopes. Wrexham's win over Swansea on Friday left both teams needing three points to keep pace with the top six, but despite a hatful of chances, neither could claim victory.

An eventful first half saw Marvin Ducksch hit the woodwork twice in the opening nine minutes, first when Ibrahim Osman's deflected drive struck the post, then when Ducksch curled an effort off the crossbar from the left-hand corner of the area. The Blades were reduced to 10 men after 23 minutes when Femi Seriki brought Osman down and was adjudged to be the last defender. Ducksch converted the resulting free-kick for his 10th Championship goal.

Patrick Bamford equalised three minutes into stoppage time, latching onto Harrison Burrows' pass over the top, taking the ball around James Beadle and rolling it into the net. The game remained open in the second half but chances were less plentiful, with Ducksch striking the bar again with 18 minutes remaining for a hat-trick of woodwork strikes. Both managers offered no post-match comments.
