Benvenuto Cellini erased his Epsom disappointment with a commanding win in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh, leading home a Aidan O'Brien one-two-three for the Ballydoyle handler. The Chester Vase winner, who finished down the field at Epsom after a stalls incident, justified 7/4 favoritism under Ryan Moore to beat stablemate Christmas Day by one and three-quarter lengths.

Moore praised the Frankel colt's quality after missing the break slightly but recovering smoothly to assert in the closing stages. 'He's still a little bit babyish but there's nothing wrong with his temperament,' the jockey said, reflecting on the unusual circumstances that derailed their Derby challenge. Pierre Bonnard completed the O'Brien clean sweep in third, with previously unbeaten Raaheeb fourth.

O'Brien secured his 18th Irish Derby triumph and third Derby success of the year, having also won at Epsom with Christmas Day and saddled the first three in the French Derby. The trainer suggested Benvenuto Cellini could target the King George or Irish Champion Stakes, noting his preference for mile-and-a-quarter trips over longer distances.

Earlier, Purview stamped his Group One credentials with an impressive victory in the International Stakes for Dermot Weld. The Kingman colt traveled strongly before powering clear to win comfortably, with Weld identifying the Irish Champion Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf as potential year-end targets.
