Bournemouth winger Ben Gannon-Doak has earned his place in Scotland's World Cup 2026 squad, two years after injury robbed him of Euro 2024 selection. The 20-year-old was initially chosen by Steve Clarke but couldn't recover fully in time for Germany. Now preparing with the squad in the USA, Gannon-Doak reflects on that disappointment as potentially beneficial.

He told Sky Sports News that missing Euro 2024 might have been a blessing in disguise, believing he wasn't ready then. "The Euros probably came a bit too early," Gannon-Doak admitted. "I wouldn't have given the best account of myself that I know I could have done." The former Liverpool academy player feels genuinely prepared for tournament football now.

Scotland faces Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti in their group, with Gannon-Doak joining fellow youngster Findlay Curtis in adding fearlessness to the setup. He praised the blend of youth and experience, noting players with 70-80 caps understand how to manage major tournament matches.

When asked about progressing beyond the group stage, Gannon-Doak acknowledged Scotland's history of struggles but insisted the squad has everything needed. "We're in a good place," he said, pointing to current form across the squad. The team's preparation in the USA marks Scotland's first World Cup appearance since 1998.
