Wrexham Women prepare for their first UEFA Women's Champions League campaign after completing a historic domestic double, winning the Adran Trophy and Adran Premier title. As one of the lowest-ranked sides in the first qualifying round, they face Armenian champions FC Pyunik at the 13,000-capacity Racecourse Ground on Wednesday, with a potential final against Glentoran or Riga FC on July 25.

The club's journey has been remarkable. Formed in 1993, they only reached the top Welsh flight in 2023-24. Under Hollywood ownership including Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2020, they became the first Welsh women's club to operate semi-professionally. Manager Jenny Sugarman inherited "chaos" in July 2025 with only one player under contract and no kit or facilities manager. Despite disruption including stadium redevelopment at their 3,000-capacity ground "The Rock," they signed Wales defender Maria Francis-Jones, 22, for a historic domestic transfer fee and overcame Cardiff City to win their first titles.

No Welsh club has progressed beyond the first qualifying round since Cardiff Met in 2019, and no Adran Premier side has scored in the competition since Chloe Chivers in 2021. Sugarman embraces the underdog status, citing Navy SEALs mantra: "We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training." The team now prepares for Europe while managing physical demands and scouting unfamiliar opponents.
