Spain defeated the United States 2-0 at Audi Field in a highly anticipated clash, showcasing the efficiency of the reigning World Cup champions. Patri Guijarro opened the scoring early with a long-range strike, followed by Eva Navarro's goal just 11 minutes later. Despite creating more chances and dominating possession for much of the match, the U.S. struggled with clinical finishing.
Lily Yohannes saved a penalty, and Sophia Wilson had a goal disallowed for offside. U.S. coach Emma Hayes emphasized the need for better defensive details and tighter marking. Forward Trinity Rodman acknowledged the team's lack of connection and poor decision-making in the first half. However, Hayes remained optimistic, noting that the gap between the teams has narrowed significantly compared to three years ago.
The Americans generated 2.26 expected goals to Spain's 0.43 but failed to convert their opportunities.
