Sydney Leroux Teases NWSL Return After Mental Health Break

Angel City FC forward Sydney Leroux has teased a return to the NWSL after missing the entire 2025 season for mental health reasons. The 35-year-old forward posted on social media Tuesday, writing "This comeback is for you" and promising "I'll see you soon" to her supporters. Leroux, who turns 36 in May, has been with Angel City since 2022 and previously won the 2015 World Cup with the United States.

Last year, Leroux announced just one day before Angel City's season opener that she would step away from soccer for mental health reasons. She insisted at the time that she would return. The forward described 2025 as "the hardest year of my life" - heartbreaking, isolating and devastating - but expressed gratitude to those who supported her through the challenging period.

When reached for comment, an Angel City spokesperson declined to provide further details about Leroux's comeback or roster status. Leroux was still listed as an excused absence when Angel City announced its preseason roster in January. The team opens its 2026 season March 15 against Chicago Stars at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
