Sweden coach Graham Potter sealed his World Cup squad on Tuesday, naming Liverpool striker Alexander Isak as the headline name. Despite a difficult season at Anfield, Isak’s lingering injuries have curtailed his appearances after the high‑profile switch from Newcastle. Potter stressed the challenge: “Getting Alex into peak form is essential because when he is at his best, he is a world‑class player.”

Potter also highlighted Arsenal forward Viktor Gyökeres, who has chased a Premier League‑Champions League and scored the decisive winner against Poland to secure Sweden’s World Cup berth. The squad also includes veteran defender Victor Lindelöf from Aston Villa and Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga, rounding out a mix of experience and youth, and his recent form has made him a key attacking threat for the squad.

The most visible omission is Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski, sidelined for more than a year with a serious knee injury. Potter admitted the decision was hard but necessary, prioritising the team’s needs over the player’s desire to play. Sweden will face Norway and Greece in friendlies before opening the tournament against Tunisia in Monterrey.
