Police are investigating the death of South Africa World Cup footballer Jayden Adams, 25, whose body was found at a property in Cape Town’s Schotsche Kloof neighborhood. The discovery came two weeks after Adams helped South Africa reach the knockout stage for the first time. Authorities have not released a cause of death and are conducting an inquest.

The body was located around 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the Cape Town Central Police have opened a formal investigation. Adams’ father, Juanito Adams, told e NCA that the family is awaiting autopsy results and has not yet arranged funeral plans. He spoke of the family’s difficulty in coping with the loss, noting that it will never be easy.

Adams, who played in all three group matches, missed the 1-0 loss to Canada in the round of 32. South African Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie praised his resilience, especially after his grandmother’s death, and urged restraint and compassion from the public while the investigation proceeds.

Tributes were paid during the England vs. Norway and Argentina vs. Switzerland World Cup quarterfinals, highlighting the impact of his untimely death.
