Mexico coach Javier Aguirre confirmed the Mexico Football Federation has guaranteed safety for Wednesday's friendly against Iceland in Queretaro. Aguirre emphasized his focus remains on football despite recent security concerns that have gripped the country following the killing of cartel leader "El Mencho." The match will proceed as scheduled with a sold-out crowd expected.

The security situation escalated after El Mencho's death, which led to road blocks and vehicle burning across nearly a dozen states. Other Liga MX matches were postponed, but Mexican football authorities have assured FIFA they're addressing the concerns. Sources confirm no World Cup hosting rights are currently at risk despite the instability.

Aguirre maintained a calm approach, stating the team is "relaxed, training, we talk about sports." The Portugal federation is closely monitoring Mexico's situation before their potential friendly in Mexico City on March 28. FIFA has requested security reports from Mexico ahead of the summer World Cup co-hosted with the U.S. and Canada.
