Manchester United Closing in on André Onana Loan Return to Trabzonspor

Manchester United are finalizing a fresh loan deal with Trabzonspor for goalkeeper André Onana, according to ESPN sources. The 30-year-old spent last season in Turkey and was scheduled to return to Carrington for preseason training before the Turkish club moved to extend his stay. United officials informed Onana's representatives in May that he would not feature in Michael Carrick's plans regardless of his return.

Onana remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, but the club's goalkeeping hierarchy has shifted significantly. Altay Bayindir saw a January move to Besiktas collapse, while third-choice Tom Heaton signed a one-year extension after turning 40 in April. United's priority now centers on providing competition for first-choice Senne Lammens ahead of the new campaign.

The loan extension makes practical sense given United's goalkeeper situation. Carrick's squad reconvenes for preseason on July 9, excluding World Cup participants, giving the manager time to assess his options between the sticks. Onana's experience in the Turkish league positions him well for another season away from Manchester.

United's goalkeeping recruitment this summer will likely determine whether this loan becomes permanent or if Onana has a future at Old Trafford beyond 2028.
