Manchester United have agreed a £35m ($47m) deal with Atalanta for midfielder Éderson, sources confirm. The 26-year-old Brazilian will sign a contract until 2030 with an option for another year, becoming United's first signing since Michael Carrick became permanent head coach.

The transfer stalled after a proposed move to Atlético Madrid fell through. Éderson made 180 appearances in four seasons at Atalanta and has three international caps. With the deal agreed, United will now focus on West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, 21, who faces Championship football after relegation.

United also seek a left-back due to doubts about Luke Shaw's ability to handle a three-games-per-week workload in Premier League and Champions League competition. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andre Onana plans to return to Carrington this summer if no permanent move is arranged, having spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor.
