Man City Break British Transfer Record for Elliot Anderson

Manchester City have secured Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a deal that sets a new British transfer record. The 23-year-old England midfielder will cost the Premier League champions up to £130 million ($171.5 million), surpassing Alexander Isak's £125 million move to Liverpool. City finally landed their top summer target after two earlier offers were rejected.

Anderson becomes the most expensive British player ever, eclipsing Declan Rice's £105 million transfer from West Ham to Arsenal in 2023. The midfielder is currently with Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad preparing for England's final group match against Panama, and will undergo his medical in the United States before completing the switch.

This marks City's first major signing since Pep Guardiola departed at season's end, with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca poised to take charge. The club needed midfield reinforcement after Bernardo Silva joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, while question marks linger over Nico González and Tijjani Reijnders.

Manchester United also pursued Anderson, making City's successful bid a significant coup in the transfer market. The record fee signals both the player's quality and the Premier League champions' intent to rebuild under new management.
