Seventeen‑year‑old Gilberto Mora, the youngest player on the 2026 FIFA World Cup roster, has signed a three‑year contract to remain with Club Tijuana for the next three seasons. The deal quashes weeks of speculation linking the Mexican prodigy to Real Madrid and other European giants. Tijuana also awarded him the coveted No. 10 shirt, cementing his status as the squad’s centerpiece.

Interest from Barcelona, Manchester City and AC Milan surfaced, but the contract includes a “highly tailored and clearly structured release mechanism” allowing a future bid and European interest to trigger a move. Representative Rafaela Pimenta said the clause creates “a clear pathway for the opportunities ahead.” Mora debuted for Mexico at 16, becoming the nation’s youngest senior international and Liga MX scorer.

Mora thanked Tijuana, saying the club “helped me grow as a player and a person,” and pledged to give his all for Mexico in the opening match against South Africa. Club president Jorge Alberto called the agreement “historic” and highlighted the mutual commitment to the teenager’s development. He will feature for Mexico at the World Cup while continuing his club season with Tijuana.
