Flamengo president rules out Vinícius Júnior return due to finances

Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista has shut down speculation about an imminent return for Vinícius Júnior, stating the Brazilian club lacks the financial capacity to reunite with its former star. The admission comes despite Flamengo's record-breaking €42 million acquisition of Lucas Paquetá in January, which Baptista called a "different scenario" from pursuing the Real Madrid forward.

Vinícius left Flamengo for Real Madrid in 2018 for €45 million and currently earns wages beyond the Rio club's structure. While the 25-year-old's contract talks with Madrid have stalled, Baptista emphasized the striker remains committed to European football. "He has no one waiting for him at home [in Brazil]," the president noted, contrasting Vinícius' situation with Paquetá's family ties to Rio.

The comments underscore Flamengo's limitations despite its status as South America's wealthiest club. Vinícius reiterated his desire to stay at Madrid through 2027 last month, though delayed extension negotiations keep transfer rumors alive. Baptista left the door open for a future move, declaring Vinícius "will always be welcome" but insisting current economics make a deal impossible.
