Founded in 2023 by Turkmenistan's former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Arkadag has won 82 consecutive league matches and three straight Yokary Liga titles.

The Turkmen powerhouse also dominates domestic cup competitions, winning all 14 cup ties contested and claiming three Turkmenistan Cups, two Super Cups, and one Football Federation Cup. Their streak ended only in continental competition, losing to Kuwaiti side Al Arabi in the 2024-25 AFC Challenge League, though they still won the tournament. In this season's AFC Champions League Two, Arkadag advanced to face Al Nassr despite winning only one group stage match.

Ronaldo, who missed the first leg due to a boycott over Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund involvement, returned to score in Saturday's 2-0 win over Al Fateh. The Portuguese star now faces Arkadag in the second leg on February 18 in Riyadh, where he'll encounter a club whose domestic dominance stems from assembling Turkmenistan's top talent under the protection of political power.
