USWNT midfielder Sam Coffey underwent minor knee surgery earlier this week and will begin rehabilitation, her club Manchester City announced. The 27-year-old defensive midfielder played 10 matches for the club that recently won the Women's Super League title. City did not specify the nature of the procedure but indicated Coffey will recover over the summer.

Coffey moved to Manchester City from Portland Thorns FC in January for an $875,000 transfer fee, becoming a key player in their championship season. Since debuting with the USWNT in 2022, she has established herself as a staple in the midfield, starting in their 2024 Olympic gold medal run with five goals in 46 national team appearances.

Coffey will miss upcoming USWNT matches against Brazil in early June but is expected to return for World Cup qualifying beginning in November. Manchester City, as WSL champions, qualified directly into the league phase of the 2026-27 UEFA Women's Champions League, where Coffey is expected to be a major contributor to their European ambitions.
