Club needs (City replacing Bernardo Silva/Rodri, Chelsea beating Arsenal) and long contracts forced the premiums.

History is grim for £100m+ deals. Neymar, João Félix, Griezmann, Coutinho, Lukaku, Dembélé, Hazard, Antony, Sancho, and Higuaín largely failed — mostly attackers.
