Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas has reached an agreement with London City Lionesses, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN, after leaving Barcelona following a 14‑year spell. Putellas entertained offers from the NWSL but London City remained the frontrunner, and a deal is now set for a move to the Women's Super League side.

Putellas chose London City to stay in Europe, stay close to home and avoid regular clashes with Barcelona, sources said. Owner Michele Kang, who also controls OL Lyonnais and Washington Spirit, envisions a Champions League project and backs a state‑of‑the‑art training complex. The Lionesses finished sixth in their debut WSL season, missing the top‑three European spots, and plan to add former Barca defender Mapi León.

In her final Barcelona campaign, the 32‑year‑old posted 21 goals and 13 assists in 42 matches, ending a season that delivered a second quadruple. Her 232 career goals make her Barcelona’s all‑time top scorer and the second‑highest scorer across the club’s men’s and women’s history, trailing only Lionel Messi. With the 2027 World Cup and 2028 Olympics in view, Putellas arrives in London ready to test herself in a new environment.
