Gustavsson struggled down the stretch during the regular season before being benched in favor of rookie Jesper Wallstedt during the playoffs. Gustavsson finished with a 2.69 goals-against average and .903 save percentage, while Wallstedt posted superior numbers with a 2.61 GAA and .915 save percentage in his first season.

The 26-year-old Swedish netminder signed a five-year, $34 million contract extension last fall that kicks in for the 2026-27 season and carries a full no-trade clause for the first two years.
