Wild's Gustavsson Undergoes Hip Surgery

Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson will undergo offseason hip surgery, with general manager Bill Guerin confirming the procedure will happen "as soon as possible." The surgery addresses general wear and tear rather than a specific playoff injury, raising questions about Gustavsson's readiness for training camp this fall.

Gustavsson struggled down the stretch during the regular season before being benched in favor of rookie Jesper Wallstedt during the playoffs. Gustavsson finished with a 2.69 goals-against average and .903 save percentage, while Wallstedt posted superior numbers with a 2.61 GAA and .915 save percentage in his first season.

The 26-year-old Swedish netminder signed a five-year, $34 million contract extension last fall that kicks in for the 2026-27 season and carries a full no-trade clause for the first two years. Guerin expressed confidence in both goalies, calling it a luxury to have "two No. 1 goalies" who work well in tandem.
