The Minnesota Wild have signed head coach John Hynes to a multiyear contract extension, the club announced Tuesday. Hynes was entering the final year of his current deal, his third full season with the Wild after replacing Dean Evason during the 2023-24 campaign. The new pact begins in 2027-28.

Since Hynes took over, Minnesota is 125-78-24 in the regular season and 7-10 in two playoff appearances. The Wild reached the second round last year for the first time since 2014-15, falling to the Presidents' Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche in five games. General manager Bill Guerin praised Hynes: "I'm a big believer in John and what he does and how he operates."

Guerin sees this as the Wild's Stanley Cup window and has been aggressive, including acquiring star defenseman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver last December. Hughes can sign an extension before becoming a free agent on July 1, 2027.

Now Hynes and the Wild must show last season was no fluke. The Wild open the 2026-27 season Oct. 1 against the Nashville Predators.
