Rasmus Dahlin's Fiancée Returns to Sabres Game After Heart Transplant

Sabres fans gave a heartfelt ovation Wednesday night as Carolina Matovac, fiancée of team captain Rasmus Dahlin, attended her first game since receiving a life-saving heart transplant. Matovac, who spent seven months recovering in Sweden after her heart failed during a vacation in France last summer, waved to the crowd as the team welcomed her during the first period against Boston.

The couple's ordeal began when Matovac fell ill for several days before her heart stopped. Dahlin revealed in September that she required CPR for hours and spent weeks on life support before receiving a new heart. The defenseman took brief trips to visit her during the NHL season while she recovered in their native Sweden.

In January, Matovac shared that she was pregnant when her heart failed, though the unborn child did not survive. She credited the pregnancy with helping doctors discover her heart condition. The emotional homecoming marks a significant milestone in Matovac's recovery as she continues to rebuild her strength after the harrowing medical crisis.
