Nikita Kucherov secured his second Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP on Thursday. He edged out Connor McDavid by 10 points in the tightest race since the 2001-02 season. Nathan MacKinnon rounded out the top three, marking a rare instance where every finalist earned at least 25% of first-place votes.

Kucherov dominated the league with a 1.71 points per game average, totaling 44 goals and 86 assists. His 130 points included a massive stretch of 104 points in just 50 games. This output outperformed his nearest teammate by 42 points, though McDavid actually finished with the league's highest total at 138.

Winning for the first time in 2019, Kucherov now joins Sidney Crosby and Jean Beliveau as the only players to wait seven or more years between MVP awards. He previously finished second in 2023-24 and third a year prior. This victory cements his status as a Tampa Bay Lightning offensive powerhouse.
