Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks due to a lower-body injury. Chatfield, who played just two shifts in the third period of Tuesday's 6-5 overtime win over Boston, has accumulated two goals and a career-high 15 assists in 71 games this season.

Coach Rod Brind'Amour expressed concern about Chatfield's status, stating the defenseman is "not 100%" and will miss the matchup. The injury comes at a critical juncture for the Hurricanes, who clinched the Metropolitan Division title with their victory against the Bruins. Carolina entered Thursday's action atop the Eastern Conference standings, holding a two-point lead over the Buffalo Sabres.

The Hurricanes have recalled defenseman Charles Alexis Legault and forwards Skyler Brind'Amour, Bradly Nadeau, and Josiah Slavin from their AHL affiliate. Notably, Skyler Brind'Amour is the coach's son and scored a goal in two games with Carolina last April, while Slavin is the younger brother of Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin.
