The Boston Bruins have signed top prospect James Hagens to an amateur tryout agreement with their AHL affiliate in Providence. The 19-year-old forward, selected seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, will report to the Bruins' minor league team after a standout sophomore season at Boston College.

Hagens led Hockey East in scoring with 23 goals and 47 points in 34 games, finishing among the NCAA's top 10 scorers. The Hauppauge, New York native also recorded six game-winning goals and two hat tricks for the Eagles, who failed to qualify for the NCAA tournament. Scouts believe Hagens has outgrown college hockey.

The Bruins will evaluate Hagens on a day-by-day basis as they navigate a tight playoff race in the Eastern Conference. While the skilled forward believes he can contribute immediately at the NHL level, Boston typically prefers prospects to develop in the minors first. Hagens' versatility as both a center and wing could prove valuable as the Bruins hold the first wild card spot.
