Former Cowboys quarterback Will Grier has returned to the organization as an offensive assistant, a source told ESPN. Grier had previously retired as a player on July 15 after a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers.

He spent last season on the Cowboys' practice squad after rejoining the team in 2024. Grier originally joined the Cowboys in 2021, claimed off waivers from the Panthers. He was inactive for every game that season and remained with the team through 2022, moving between the active roster and practice squad.

After being released in 2023 due to the acquisition of Trey Lance, Grier won a Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 while on their practice squad. Originally a third-round pick by Carolina in 2019, Grier started two games as a rookie. Coach Brian Schottenheimer reportedly believes Grier's offensive mind will lead to a successful coaching career.
