ESPN’s new “I Scored a Touchdown” series profiles every player who has reached the Super Bowl end zone. The weekly feature runs through Feb. 14, 2027, unveiling 61 athletes across TV and digital platforms. On May 24, the show highlighted former Steelers receiver Hines Ward and his iconic Super Bowl XL score, recounting the play that cemented Pittsburgh’s fifth Lombardi Trophy and fan enthusiasm through the nation.

Coach Bill Cowher overruled coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and sent the risky reverse on the fourth‑quarter drive. After Willie Parker’s 75‑yard run drew Seattle’s safeties in, Cowher green‑lit the trick. Ben Roethlisberger handed off to Parker, who later pitched to Antwaan Randle El. The ex‑quarterback sprinted right, launched a 43‑yard spiral and hit Ward, who slipped past Marcus Trufant for the go‑ahead score for the Steelers.

Randle El credits Ward as a mentor who urged him to stay calm before the snap, a bond forged after the Indiana quarterback was drafted in 2002. Both former college quarterbacks, they embodied the Steelers’ “jack‑of‑all‑trades” ethos. The play secured a lead that held, delivering Pittsburgh its fifth championship and cementing the duo’s place in Super Bowl lore for future generations in Pittsburgh.
