The Minnesota Vikings have suspended assistant coach Gerald Alexander for three weeks without pay due to a drunken driving arrest in April. Court documents detail an incident where Alexander was found passed out at the wheel of his car in Edina, Minnesota.

An Edina police officer responded to a welfare check and found Alexander unresponsive. Upon waking, Alexander exhibited poor balance and a preliminary breath test showed an alcohol concentration of .169. While he initially cooperated, Alexander refused a secondary test after his arrest.

Alexander pleaded guilty on July 16 to third-degree DWI and was fined $603, ordered to complete 48 hours of community service, and placed on two years of unsupervised probation. He issued an apology, stating he takes full responsibility and is committed to learning from the experience.

His suspension, which began Friday, will conclude on August 13. The Vikings stated they remained in communication with the NFL during the legal process and believe the disciplinary action is appropriate given the seriousness of the situation.
