San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has missed several practices due to tightness, but coach Kyle Shanahan dismissed speculation that the absence was related to contract negotiations. Shanahan stated that assumptions about McCaffrey seeking a raise following the recent deals for Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs and Atlanta's Bijan Robinson were incorrect. McCaffrey, who has two years remaining on his 2024 extension with cap numbers of $10.86 million this season and $26.41 million in 2027, visited with his family during practice. Shanahan emphasized the team is being cautious to avoid turning minor tightness into a more significant injury.

Other injury updates included rookie running back Kaelon Black returning to practice after an adductor injury. Defensive end Nick Bosa is making progress in his recovery from a torn ACL, participating in side workouts. Wide receiver Mike Evans took part in most of practice but was held out of final periods due to quad tightness.

McCaffrey played in every game last season, leading the league in touches (413) and finishing second in yards from scrimmage (2,126). The 49ers completed a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday afternoon.
