Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty was helped off the practice field Sunday after sustaining a sprained ankle. The injury occurred during a drill when Jeanty dove for a low pass from veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and landed awkwardly on the turf grass. While the Raiders are unsure of his return timeline, the injury is not considered long-term.

Jeanty was selected sixth overall in the 2025 NFL draft and started 17 games as a rookie, rushing for 975 yards and five touchdowns. He is expected to be a key figure in Year 2 under first-time head coach Klint Kubiak. Rookie Mike Washington Jr. took the first-team reps following the injury.

The Raiders open the season against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13.
