The Carolina Panthers have relieved Ejiro Evero of his defensive coordinator duties following a 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Through seven games, Evero's unit ranked 30th in rushing defense and 23rd in total defense, allowing over 290 rushing yards in multiple games. Longtime defensive line coach Todd Wash will serve as interim coordinator for the remainder of the season.
Evero, 45, led the Panthers' defense since 2023, predating head coach Dave Canales. Despite finishing fourth overall in his first season, his unit allowed over 3,000 rushing yards in 2024. Since then, his defenses have allowed 12 games of 200+ rushing yards, the most in the league.
The team is also moving on from passing game coordinator Jonathon Cooley and outside linebackers coach AC Carter, with secondary coach Renaldo Hill overseeing the defensive backs.
