Chicago Bears activated Ozzy Trapilo off the physically unable to perform list on Sunday, making him eligible to practice in training camp after a 7‑month recovery from a ruptured patellar tendon sustained in the postseason.

The former 2nd‑round pick began his rookie season as a left tackle in Week 12, playing six games and starting in the Bears’ wild‑card win over the Green Bay Packers before the injury.

During the offseason the team had doubts about retaining Trapilo for 2026, placing him on PUP at camp start. Coach Ben Johnson said he was “hitting his hurdles,” leading to a quicker return.

With a competition for the starting left tackle featuring Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills Jr., it’s still unclear when Trapilo will rejoin the lineup, but his early practice return is a positive sign.

Courtney Cronin, who joined ESPN in 2017 and now covers the Bears, noted the development during her reporting. She previously covered the Minnesota Vikings and has hosted shows like Best Week Ever and Game Night.

The Bears’ search for a dependable left tackle continues as they weigh options. The early return of Trapilo provides the coaching staff with an experienced option while they evaluate the competition.
