The Detroit Lions locked up linebacker Jack Campbell with a four-year extension through the 2030 season, just weeks after declining his fifth-year option worth an estimated $21.925 million. Campbell, 25, earned first-team AP All-Pro honors in 2025 after recording 176 tackles, nine for loss, five sacks, and four passes defended.

The Lions skipped the expensive fifth-year option on Campbell's rookie deal last month, which would have exceeded the NFL's highest-paid off-ball linebacker. His 2025 season marked a clear leap from his 2023 draft status as the 18th overall pick out of Iowa, establishing him as Detroit's most consistent defender on the roster.

Detroit now faces a similar deadline with other 2023 draftees. Jahmyr Gibbs has his fifth-year option exercised ($14.29 million in 2027), while tight end Sam LaPorta and defensive back Brian Branch become unrestricted free agents after this season. Campbell's extension signals the Lions' intent to keep their core together.
