Jets Set to Tag Breece Hall if Extension Fails

The New York Jets will use the franchise or transition tag on running back Breece Hall if they cannot reach a long-term contract agreement before Tuesday's deadline, general manager Darren Mougey announced. The franchise tag would be worth an estimated $14.5 million in 2026, while the transition tag would cost approximately $11.7 million.

Hall, a 2022 second-round pick, has been productive despite playing on a struggling Jets offense, rushing for 3,398 yards over four seasons. He became the first Jets running back since 2015 to reach 1,000 yards last season, achieving the milestone on a 3-14 team. Despite his production, Hall wasn't voted team MVP by his teammates, with punt returner Isiah Williams receiving the honor instead.

The 24-year-old back has shown durability over the past three seasons, missing only two games, though he suffered an ACL tear during his rookie year. While his explosive-run percentage and average speed have declined since his rookie season's 5.8 yards per rush, Hall remains regarded as an explosive dual-threat back with six career touchdowns of at least 42 yards.
