The Detroit Lions and running back Jahmyr Gibbs have agreed to a contract extension, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The deal is for three years, $67.5 million, with a potential to reach $75.75 million and $51.5 million guaranteed.

This record-breaking deal surpasses the extension signed by Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week. Gibbs, who was drafted 12th overall in 2023, has quickly become a highly productive player. Despite splitting carries, he has amassed 49 career touchdowns, the most in NFL history for a player through their first three seasons, exceeding the previous record held by Barry Sanders.

Last season, Gibbs finished fifth in the league with 1,839 yards from scrimmage and second in total touchdowns with 18. His production is expected to continue, especially after the Lions traded David Montgomery and signed Isiah Pacheco. Despite his success, Gibbs believes he has not yet reached his full potential.
