The New York Giants are placing running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, general manager Joe Schoen announced Tuesday. Tracy was set to split the majority of the running back reps with Cam Skattebo before suffering the injury in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Houston Texans. He left in the first half after logging 10 offensive snaps to Skattebo's 13.
Devin Singletary, who scored the game-winning touchdown in Houston, is expected to play a bigger role in Tracy's absence. The Giants are also signing running back Greg Desrosiers off the practice squad from the Los Angeles Chargers to take Tracy's roster spot. "We have lots of confidence in Skattebo and Singletary," Schoen said. "And we'll have to see what Greg can do." Schoen did not think the injury would be long-term, but Tracy must miss a minimum of four games. The Giants (4-2-1) are on their bye week and next play the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 7.
The Giants do not appear desperate to trade for a running back, despite speculation about Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor. Schoen did not close the door on any moves, but noted the Giants are short on picks in next year's draft, already without their fourth- and fifth-round selections in 2027. "We're going to look at all the options that are available," Schoen said.
Skattebo rushed for a career-high 124 yards against the Texans after being demoted for the previous game. Tracy, 26, had scored touchdowns in consecutive weeks before the injury and has 55 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries this season. The third-year back, a fifth-round pick out of Iowa, had more than 1,000 all-purpose yards in each of his first two seasons with the Giants. He first felt the hamstring during practice earlier in the week.
