The Dallas Cowboys have ended the planned competition for the starting left tackle position, naming rookie Tyler Guyton to practice full-time with the first-team offense. Coach Brian Schottenheimer stated that Guyton, a 2024 first-round pick, has impressed early in training camp, leading to the decision to keep him at the blindside protector for quarterback Dak Prescott.

The initial plan was to rotate Guyton and fellow contender Nate Thomas every four days. However, this rotation was scrapped after just one padded practice. Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Guyton's performance, noting his compact sets, control, and effective leverage game. He challenged Thomas, a sixth-round pick in 2024, to demonstrate more consistent play to push for the starting role.

Guyton has experience, having started 21 of 25 games in his first two seasons, though he has faced injury concerns, missing the end of last season with an ankle sprain and earlier games due to a concussion. Thomas started four games last season at both tackle positions. Schottenheimer also highlighted Guyton's dedication during the offseason, earning him a weight room award.
