Two court appearances for Elijah Bieniemy, 27, son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, have been delayed pending a mental health evaluation. Elijah was arrested in connection with the shooting of his mother at their Virginia home and faces charges including malicious wounding and firearm use. He remains in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Court dates for Aug. 31 and a later motion hearing were continued. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating, with no motive yet released. Eric Bieniemy has remained away from the Chiefs' training camp, with duties temporarily handled by Joe Bleymaier and Andy Heck, under the oversight of coach Andy Reid.

Reid expressed support for Bieniemy, stating the importance of family matters. "Everybody's game is picked up, and they're working hard, and Eric will be back soon enough," Reid said. Eric's wife, Mia Bieniemy, 57, has been released from the ICU and is reportedly "doing better" after being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Eric Bieniemy previously helped the Chiefs to two Super Bowl victories before a stint as offensive coordinator with the Washington Commanders. He returned to the Chiefs as offensive coordinator earlier this year.
