49ers Sign Mike Evans to $60M Deal as WR Room Overhaul Begins

The San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran wide receiver Mike Evans to a three-year deal worth up to $60.4 million, sources told ESPN. The move addresses San Francisco's need for proven receiving talent and leadership as the team begins a significant overhaul of its wide receiver room.

Evans, 32, brings 12 seasons of elite production to the 49ers, including 11 consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His addition mirrors last year's signing of Davante Adams by the Los Angeles Rams, providing immediate veteran presence and a reliable target for quarterback Brock Purdy. The contract includes performance incentives and is structured to benefit the 49ers' salary cap flexibility.

With Brandon Aiyuk set for release and Jauan Jennings expected to depart in free agency, Evans steps in as the 'X' receiver, offering Purdy a proven red zone weapon and deep threat. His ability to win contested catches should also allow third-year receiver Ricky Pearsall to move to his more comfortable 'Z' position. Despite concerns about Evans' age and recent injuries, the deal represents low risk for San Francisco as they continue rebuilding a receiving corps that ranked among the NFL's worst in touchdowns and speed last season.
