The San Francisco 49ers are reuniting with Deebo Samuel on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The move comes amid injury concerns for receivers Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk.

Pearsall has swelling in the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, creating uncertainty about his availability. Kirk has missed recent training camp practices with a strained calf. These ailments prompted the 49ers to work out three receivers Wednesday before opting to bring back Samuel.

The 49ers originally drafted Samuel in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. He spent six seasons in San Francisco, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors in 2021 when he totaled 1,770 combined rushing and receiving yards with 12 touchdowns. Traded to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 offseason, Samuel posted 72 catches for 727 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games last season.

For his career, Samuel has 406 receptions for 5,519 yards and 27 receiving touchdowns, plus 219 carries for 1,218 yards and 21 rushing scores. Back in San Francisco, he'll likely line up alongside veteran Mike Evans as the 49ers evaluate young options like De'Zhaun Stribling, Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing.
