The San Francisco 49ers will play two international games in 2026, adding Mexico City to their already scheduled trip to Australia. The NFL announced Wednesday that San Francisco will host a December regular-season game at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, marking their third appearance in the country.

This international doubleheader represents a first in franchise history. The 49ers will face the Los Angeles Rams at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia during the regular season, while their Mexico City opponent and exact date will be announced with the full NFL schedule release this spring. The Mexico City game will be played at the newly renovated Estadio Banorte, formerly known as Estadio Azteca, where the 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 in 2022.

The Mexico City contest is part of a record nine international games scheduled for the 2026 season across six countries. While the 49ers hold marketing rights in Mexico City alongside teams like the Cardinals, Cowboys, and Rams, the NFL is not required to schedule opponents with similar rights. The 49ers previously played in Mexico City in 2005 and 2022, with their 2022 visit including altitude acclimation training in Colorado Springs.
