Jayson Tatum has cleared a major milestone in his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon by being cleared to practice with the Boston Celtics' G League affiliate. The Celtics announced Monday that Tatum will participate in portions of practice at the Auerbach Center alongside teammates Hugo Gonzalez and Amari Williams. After the session, he will be recalled by the Celtics to continue his rehabilitation.

Tatum suffered the devastating injury during the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks last May. Despite his absence, Boston has thrived with a 34-19 record, currently sitting third in the Eastern Conference behind All-Star Jaylen Brown's stellar play. The two-time All-NBA selection has openly contemplated whether returning might disrupt the team's chemistry, telling The Pivot podcast he wrestles with questions about integrating himself back into a squad that's found success without him.

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has been adamant that Boston is better with Tatum on the floor, especially after acquiring Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline. Stevens has pledged to remind Tatum daily that the 30-team league would be significantly stronger with the former All-NBA forward in uniform. This practice session marks the next crucial step in Tatum's journey back to the NBA court.
