The San Antonio Spurs have waived forward Jeremy Sochan, making the 2023 All-Rookie selection a free agent. The move comes after Sochan fell out of the rotation due to the emergence of rookie Carter Bryant, who has shown more upside as a two-way player.

Sochan, the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, played more than five minutes in a game just twice since January 7. He averaged 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and an assist while shooting 47.5% from the field in 28 games this season. The Spurs had previously experimented with playing Sochan at point guard during Victor Wembanyama's rookie season.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson commended Sochan's professionalism during this difficult time, noting that the 22-year-old wanted to be in a situation where he could play now. Multiple teams have expressed interest in Sochan, who has been through trade talks at the deadline that didn't materialize. The former Polish national team player leaves San Antonio after four seasons, during which he provided lockdown defense when called upon.
