Dejounte Murray is expected to make his season debut Tuesday when the New Orleans Pelicans host the Golden State Warriors. The Pelicans acquired Murray in a trade last season, but he played just 31 games after breaking his left hand in the first game and then rupturing his right Achilles tendon on Jan. 31, 2025.

Murray's return comes as the Pelicans have undergone significant changes, including replacing their front office, trading Brandon Ingram, and firing head coach Willie Green. The new regime under Joe Dumars has emphasized developing the young core, including rookie guard Jeremiah Fears. The team currently sits near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Murray, who has been rehabbing for over 13 months, expressed his determination to return, saying, "I love the game and I put myself in a position to be able to say I want to go out and play." Interim coach James Borrego praised Murray's commitment but noted it might be premature to discuss how he fits the franchise's long-term vision. Murray emphasized that regardless of management changes, the focus remains on playing hard and the right way.
