Stephen Curry acknowledged the appeal of teaming up with LeBron James late in their careers, calling it a "unique story in NBA history." Curry, competing in the American Century Championship, faced numerous questions about the Golden State Warriors' pursuit of the veteran free agent. While downplaying immediate discussions, Curry confirmed he and James have communicated recently via text.

The Warriors are reportedly optimistic about their chances but face stiff competition, particularly from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State's advantages include the established friendship between Curry, James, and Draymond Green, as well as the team's veteran-friendly environment. Curry stated that if James expressed a desire to play in Golden State, the team would "move mountains to make it happen."

If James does not join the Warriors, the team is expected to largely run it back with their current roster, which includes re-signings of Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. Golden State also added backup center Charles Bassey on a one-year deal. The team currently has 11 roster spots filled, with Draymond Green expected to take the 12th and mutual interest in re-signing Gary Payton II.
